How it works:
-We recommend choosing your in-person date between 33-37 weeks of your pregnancy and completing all eClasses before you and your labor support partner attend the in-person session.
-In-person portion of class is on a Saturday morning and runs from 10:00 a.m.-3:00 p.m. with an hour lunch break. Morning session is 2.5 hours of Labor skills and the afternoon is 1.5 hours of Newborn Care skills.
-When you register, we will send you access to the eClass portion within a few days. The eClass portion is self-paced.
-You will have access to the eClass for 180 days from the day you first access the material.

A Baby Bundle In-Person (Santa Cruz)

Instructor: Health Educator
This two-day, in-person class will help you and your birth support partner gain the knowledge and hands-on skills necessary to be confident in your birth and postpartum journey. You will learn about physiologic labor and birth, partner support techniques, pain coping options, hospital procedures, and newborn care. This unique offering combines childbirth education with newborn care into a single weekend class that includes:
• opportunities to actively practice labor and birthing positions
• information on hospital procedures and pain medications

• non-pharmacological pain coping skills

• newborn care skills, such as swaddling, baby-wearing, burping, and soothing

• a tour of a labor and delivery

Beyond the Fourth Trimester Group (Via Zoom)

Hosted by experienced Infant Care and Lactation educators, these free, drop-in groups allow you to connect with other new parents around all the changes and challenges with an older baby (4-9 months):

This fun, self-guided class that covers evidence-based changes in birth, breastfeeding, baby care, and infant safety and provides ways for new grandparents to offer support and assistance to their growing family.

eClass - Relax and Recharge (Yoga via Zoom)

Feeling drained at the end of your workday?

Join an evening movement class to release tension and restore your energy.

This class includes a combination of dynamic movements and gentle, slow, still style of yoga that involves long, passive holds in a series of poses supported by props to enhance or deepen the experience using your breath to achieve a state of relaxation and release. The class will include a combination some standing and mostly floor movements with modifications provided.

This class is open to all and appropriate for all levels of fitness. No previous experience needed.

Optional Equipment: yoga mat, yoga blocks (or books), bolsters or pillows, blankets, comfortable environment without too many distractions

The instructor and Sutter Health are not liable for any injuries sustained during the participation of this class.

You should consult your physician or other health care professional before starting this or any other fitness program to determine if it is right for your needs. This is particularly true if you (or your family) have a history of, but not limited to, high blood pressure or heart disease, or if you have ever experienced chest pain when exercising or have experienced chest pain in the past month when not engaged in physical activity, smoke, have high cholesterol, are obese, or have a bone or joint problem that could be made worse by a change in physical activity. Do not start this fitness program if your physician or health care provider advises against it. Videos, animation and interactive exercises encourage active partnerships between women and their support persons while creating confidence for their upcoming birth.

Along with the online content, students will have access to join an educator as they host a follow-up Livestream with an Educator: Strategies for Labor group call. Our experienced educators will answer questions about the class and local hospitals. It is a wonderful opportunity to receive reassuring, accurate information from a local childbirth educator.

This free online class provides expectant mothers and their partners the content and strategies they need to get breastfeeding off to a solid start. A combination of video, 3D animation and readings explain and demonstrate critical concepts and skills, including:
-How breastfeeding works
-Strategies for a great milk supply
-Breastfeeding holds and positions
-Skills to achieve a comfortable latch
-Hunger cues
-Signs of swallowing and milk transfer

Our eClass provides comprehensive information expectant parents need about how to keep their baby safe from day 1.

In this class, students will learn how to protect their little ones through instructive video clips, info graphics, stories, and interactive games. Students will also learn which accidents and injuries are most common, what can be done to prevent them and how to be prepared in the case of an emergency.

Topics Include: creating a safe sleep environment, car safety, baby equipment, childproofing, CPR demonstration and emergency preparedness.

-This informational email will include the access link to the eClass and the dates/times of our Livestreams with an Educator.
-You will have immediate access to the eClass portion. The eClass portion is self-paced.
-Each livestream topic is offered three times per month. This is an interactive live Zoom session with a scheduled date and time. You will respond to the email with the date you want to attend.
-You will have access to the eClass for 180 days from the day you first access the material.

We recommend choosing a registration date early in your third trimester and completing all eClasses and Livestreams by a few weeks before your expected due date.

Free Gentle Yoga

Join PAMF via Zoom for Free Gentle Yoga. This class is free to all adult community members, patients, providers and staff.

Yoga and meditation are ways to help strengthen your mind and body. This class may help you reduce stress and anxiety, feel happier, improve sleep, reduce pain and even lower blood pressure.

Class emphasis will be on using breath awareness, loosening practices and hatha yoga poses for mind/body awareness as well as meditation for a deeper connection with oneself.

No experience is required, all activities can be adapted and beginners are welcome!

The instructor and Sutter Health are not liable for any injuries sustained during the participation of this class.

You should consult your physician or other health care professional before starting this or any other fitness program to determine if it is right for your needs. This is particularly true if you (or your family) have a history of, but not limited to, high blood pressure or heart disease, or if you have ever experienced chest pain when exercising or have experienced chest pain in the past month when not engaged in physical activity, smoke, have high cholesterol, are obese, or have a bone or joint problem that could be made worse by a change in physical activity. Heart Smart Class - 1 Session (Mountain View)

This two-hour class is for those with a personal or family history of heart disease, high blood cholesterol, or high triglycerides and unable to control their cholesterol levels. Taught by a team of registered dieticians, class covers all of your basics from what cholesterol is to how to control it through lifestyle and nutrition. You will learn how the differences between the "good" and "bad" fats and how these impact your diet.

Living Well with Prediabetes (Virtual) class

This 2 session interactive online class is intended for anyone with prediabetes, impaired fasting glucose, insulin resistance, polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), a strong family history of diabetes, or those at risk of developing diabetes. You will leave with a better understanding of diet and exercise management, and have tools to manage your health.

Start date listed is Session 1. Session 2 is exactly one week later and is only one hour.

This interactive virtual format is an excellent choice for those who are generally comfortable using technology such as online meeting software. The class is held the using Adobe Connect platform and is best experienced by computer rather than smartphone. This is a FREE 3 hour Retreat (in the comfort of your own home). It is open to all community members (Sutter and non-Sutter). In this retreat, you will be connecting to your values, strengths and future blossoming self. You will imagine what optimal health and well-being mean to you personally and create a big picture vision. You will leave with a written statement of who you are and what health promoting behaviors you want to do consistently for healthy aging.

Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (Virtual)

Instructor: Sutter Health Educator
This class is held via Zoom beginning on the listed start date and includes a full day mindfulness retreat. The Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction program (MBSR) is designed to help you develop your inner resources to cope with chronic pain, illness and mental stress more effectively, enhancing the quality of your life. Participants learn and engage in awareness practices including breathing, body scanning, gentle yoga, mindful meditation, new ways of thinking and responding to difficult situations, relationships and emotions. This course is based on the methods of Jon Kabat-Zinn's Stress Reduction programs at the University of Massachusetts Medical Center.

Class fee includes 8 weekly sessions and a Saturday retreat from 9am-3pm.

Participants are encouraged to purchase the “Full Catastrophe Living” book by Jon Kabat-Zinn to accompany the program. You can find this book through various medias such as e-book, audio book, or paperback and find at your local library, bookstore, or online.

New Parent Support Group (In-Person)

This group is for parents and babies up to crawling (to allow for social distancing)

This group meets in the Cirillo Room at Sutter Maternity and Surgery Center in Santa Cruz on Thursdays 10:00 - 11:30 am.

Caring for a new baby is a time of growth and wonder; new parents often have many questions. Please come share your questions and experiences. We'll discuss infant development, feeding support (for breast and bottle feeding,) resources for new families and much, much more.

A baby weigh scale will be available for weight checks.

Facilitated by Sutter Lactation staff.

Prenatal Yoga (4 sessions)

During pregnancy the practice of yoga can alleviate physical discomforts, increase fitness, and improve sleep. Join us to learn breathing and relaxation techniques for an easier labor while having your questions answered by an experienced yoga instructor/ childbirth educator.

Our instructors are experienced in working with pregnant women via Zoom. Each class offers a great opportunity to connect with other expectant mothers through a short check-in and a practice appropriate for any stage of pregnancy.

Recommended props include: a yoga mat, two blocks a blanket or towel and a big pillow.
